T minus 1 week!

Hello friends and family!

Well, we have our shots and our meds, 3 forms of mosquito repellent (thanks, Mom), mosquito netting, a gallon of sunblock, a stash of protein bars, plane tickets, visas, a hostel reservation, and now a blog! Operation Africa is a go!

We're due to fly into Accra, the coastal capital of Ghana (where the temperature is approximately 100 degrees higher than it is here), on Monday, January 31st.  Ghana is a small country, about the size of Great Britain, in West Africa.  Bordered by the Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and Togo.  Population 23 million.  Advertised in the guidebooks as 'Africa for beginners' because English is the official language, the government is a stable democracy, it is safe for tourists, and the people are very friendly.  In fact, we have yet to find anyone with anything negative to say about it. In other words, we are PSYCHED!

As is to be expected, we probably won't have access to the internet on a daily basis, and we're not sure how reliable the connection will be when we do.  We will try to update our blog and stay in touch with everyone periodically, so please don't be miffed if we take a few days to respond. Please keep in touch!

much love,
Laura and Lauren
